The Other Side of The Coin: What You Don't Know About eOneNet.com
First off, this article is for those who are doing research about Malaysian Internet marketing consultants, in particular, this article is about eOneNet.com. I came across several posts in Google Groups at http://groups.google.com and decided to do some digging about this company.
I am not here to pass judgment, nor do I want to argue about any particular point of view. I am here to present my opinions, and questions about the claims they made which I hope would be useful to you.
The first thing that struck me when I first visited their website was how inviting it was. Yes inviting, from the newbies and wannabies point of view, who are looking for information about Internet marketing in Malaysia and how to setup an online business. That said, I am not a newbie, I've been on the Internet for a while and suffice to say, I see things differently on websites which most people/newbies can't.
Below are the claims made by eOnenet.com on their websites, http://www.eonenet.com, and http://www.internetmarketingcoaching.com and reasons why I find some of them misleading.
Claim Number 1: Ranked World's Top 10 Internet Marketing Seminar Workshop, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Asia in Top Search Engines (Keywords "Internet Marketing Coach", "Internet Marketing Coaching", "Internet Marketing Seminar").
This definitely raised my alert level a little. Why such a company which want to be considered credible use that as their main selling point? Google ranking is determined by a series of computer algorithm as coded by their engineers. Having top spots on Google and other "Top Search Engines" do not mean these search engines personally recognized and qualified you as the top Internet marketer of the world. It just means you've done something right on that webpage which enable you to secure that position, nothing more nothing less. And you could be anybody; even some 15 years old can achieve top rankings. That shouldn't be their main selling point and they should've known better. Unless they are trying to impress all those people who don't know any better.
OK let me give one example why this claim should not be their main selling point. Go to Google and search for
weapon of mass destruction
Then click on the first search result. Read the webpage although it looks like Internet Explorer error page. See what I mean? Should we trust our life on this website for information about WMD (weapon of mass destruction) because you think Google must be personally recognized them as the top weapon of mass destruction website? Here's the number one website under those keywords if you don't want to do the googling: http://www.coxar.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/
So what if you are number one in Google for those keywords used by eOneNet.com? Isn't that good? For sure it is and it does say something about your ability to achieve top ranking in Google. BUT why use keywords with three words in it? Why can't they achieve top ranking using keywords that contain two words such as "Internet Marketing"?
Another reason why they shouldn't brag about these three top ranking keywords is because there are very few people searching for them. To prove my point, please download this free tool, GoodKeyword, from Softnick Technologies at http://www.goodkeywords.com/. This tool basically tells you how many people search for a particular keyword using the top pay-per-click search engines for the previous month. Overture.com provide an accurate representation of the overall popularity of a particular keyword in all of the Internet search engines. Upon checking here's are my findings:
Keywords Monthly Search Count (Overture) Daily Visitors
Internet Marketing Coach 47 1.56
Internet Marketing Coaching Too low to display Neglible -
Internet Marketing Seminar 494 16.47
Total Daily Visitors 18
These three keywords bring only a total of 18 visitors per day ! These keywords are not competitive at all, that's why they managed to secure top rankings. On the sidenote, we ourselves have achieved top rankings for many competitive keywords, which contain two and even one word. As a result, we get thousands of visitors daily, I repeat "Thousands", not 18! Anyway, as eOneNet.com writes on their website, don't brag about it so we'll take that one good advice.
Did I mention I am not a newbie? OK, so I understand how hard it is to achieve good rankings for very competitive keywords. But if they want to be recognized as a good SEO (Search Engines Optimizer), please change the keywords to amore competitive ones so we will be impressed or otherwise they look amateurish!
Claim Number 2: We made $34,000 within the first 6 Months!
Interesting, but why only talk about the first 6 months? What I want to know is how much money eOneNet.com is making right NOW which originates from the Internet, and only the Internet. A more convincing claim would be to say how much they are making every month or annually from the Internet. And, they must show copies of their monthly banking transactions and the bank they belong to. The real Internet markerters especially in the US are doing exactly this, and that's an ironclad guarantee for their ability as Internet Marketer!
I suspect most, if not all of eOneNet.com income comes from selling seminar tickets and their Training pack to seminar participants and not from the Internet. Besides, if you look at their website, there's no convincing explanation about their current income from the Internet.
I don't want to see transaction copies which actually originate offline. Those are payments from participants from their seminar or offline purchases for their training packages which were than manually entered into their website order form by them to fulfill their minimum monthly transaction requirement set by the bank! Can they show me one website, developed and managed by them which produce thousands of dollar consistently month after month, even at this very moment? Yes we gonna talk more about the websites they claimed to be successful later.
Fiona Tan did mention on their website "We sent out one email and made US$5,623 in 7 days". I am not easily impressed with mass, non opt-in. email marketing which is usually associated with email spamming. If you search for eonenet in Google Groups, you'll find there are several threads complaining about spamming which point to eOneNet.com.
So my suggestion is, do what you preach and show people the undeniable proof that you been there and done that consistently!
Claim Number 3: One Million hits for our website for the month of November, 2002, with an average of 500,000 hits per month.
This one is a classic claim and it never ceases to surprise me why eOneNet use the term "Hits" instead of "Unique Visitors". Unless they purposely use this to show newbies that this term equals to "the number of visitors" or they just don't know any better.
As a matter of fact, 1 hit is not equal to 1 visitor, similarly 1,000,000 hits aren't equal to 1,000,000 visitors.
This term doesn't belong in your vocabulary unless you are a server administrator. A hit is a request made on a server for a file. If you have dozens of small graphics on each page, one visit could result in dozens of hits. For purposes of measuring traffic, hits shouldn't be used.
For Example:
1 graphic + 1 webpage ( 1 hit + 1 page view ) = 2 hits
10 graphics + 1 webpage (10 hits + 1 page view) = 11 hits
100 graphics + 1 webpage ( 100 hits + 1 page view ) = 101 hits
1000 graphics + 1 webpage (1000 hits + 1 page view ) = 1001 hits
10,000 graphics + 1 webpage (10,000 hits + 1 page view) = 10,001 hits
100,000 graphics + 1 webpage (100,000 hits + 1 page view) = 100,001 hits
And each one of these hits number needs one and only one visitor! The only reason they can get 1M hits is because they have many webpages, on their website with each page contains many graphic. To check how many pages contain within a domain, type this command into Google. site:www.domain.com. Below are the number of pages from eOneNet.com and InternetMarketingCoaching.com which have been crawled by Google spider and entered into their database.
Domain Number of pages
eOneNet.com 669
InternetMarketingCoaching.com 14
If each page has 5 graphic, 1 visit to that page generates 6 hits. So if one and only one visitor visits all the 669 pages (one after another within a session), the total hits is: 6 x 669 = 4014 hits!! That's just from ONE visitor.
So how many people arrive at eOneNet.com frontpage daily? Since they claim to have secured the tops ranking for "Internet Marketing Coach", "Internet Marketing Coaching", and "Internet Marketing Seminar" which they have, then you must be thinking, it must be quite a lot. But I've answered that question already above (18 daily visitors from overture!). These three keywords bring only a few visitors daily.
Here's the undeniable proof: You can view their visitor counter by following this link:
http://extremetracking.com/open?login=eone
In case they remove that counter link, you can download the pages which I've zipped here: [will add]
Sure enough, eOneNet.com mainpage only receives average of 85 visitors per day! I know that's not enough to make money purely from the Internet. They don't even advertise their website on Overture.com or Google.com as they've been preaching! Because I believe they themselves don't make money from the Internet but from the selling seminars tickets and training coaching packages.
Claim Number 4: They managed to secure position No. 4 in Google.com for the term "Miss World".
That's good and to be honest is quite impressive. I think the searches for this keyword is seasonal but that's fine. Just use the GoodKeywords tool above if you want to get an idea how popular this keyword is.
Anyway, my question is how does this page manage to get good ranking? If you visit the website, http://www.missmalaysia-world.com.my/. The only text on the website is "Official Miss Malaysia / World Website" and "Congratulations to Wong Sze Zen, Miss Malaysia / World 2003/2004". The main page doesn't even have Meta keywords and Description. So how come the website ranked 4th on Google.com?
One possible reason is that they are using a technique called "search engine clocking". I won't explain it here because it will get too technical. Suffice to say, people who use this technique are good candidates for lifetime banning if the search engine finds out. Another possible reason is they have managed to secure several listings in Yahoo directory. If you issue this command on Google.com:
link:http://www.missmalaysia-world.com.my/
The result shows about 19 pages linking to http://www.missmalaysia-world.com.my. And most of the links come from several different categories in Yahoo Directory. A link in any category from Yahoo will increase the PageRank of that page since the all categories pages in Yahoo have a good PageRank (Please do a search on Google if you don't know what PageRank means).
So as a result of this, http://www.missmalaysia-world.com.my/ ranked no 4 in Google. But at what price? A commercial listing in Yahoo Directory cost USD299 annually, so with so many listings for Miss Malaysia World, I wonder how much they are paying annually to maintain that position. But to be fair, they could've gotten into Yahoo Directory for free. But somehow I doubt that.
Is it worth the cost? If the client doesn't care, why should I, it's not my money. Here's another proof to show you that the Miss World page is not as busy as you would think:

You can download the zipped webpages if they've removed the link here: [will add]
Claim Number 5: Successful Websites Created By Web Creator According To eOneNet.com
It's not my intention here to judge the owner of these websites, infact far from it. I understand they might have spent a lot of time, money and sweat into making these websites a reality. But I think they've paid more than what these packages are worth using eOneNet Web Creator software.
Web Creator Pro Account
Cost: RM780 per year
Sample Site: FashionToBuy.com, 7 Pages.
The design and content are amateurish, but I won't comment further on that because it's a DIY design. So for a newbie, good for her! But even then, such expensive software should be able to produce better looking website.
One thing for sure, you don't get your own website account, (no I don't mean a server). This page is actually a framed site which is bulked hosted by eonenet.com. The link at the URL address bar always point to http://www.fashiontobuy.com. When you click on the other link the URL remains unchanged.
The page is really located at: http://www.eonenet.com/members/BlommaBoutique/home.php3. Sad to say this page has little chance of getting indexed by any search engine because of the improper implementation of framed page. Check out the counter below, this website gets an average of 50 visitors per day. Another site destined into Internet oblivion
You can easily ask a college student to design site of this standard, if not better, at a much lower cost and without the annual maintaince fee.
Web Creator Gold Account
Cost: RM1,680 per year
Sample Site: InsuranceKL.com, 21 Pages.
Another DIY package, but the difference with the above is this account offers 14 more pages. Like the above, this website is actually a framed site which is hosted at eonenet server. On the Web Creator Gold info page, no mention made about the amount of space you get and allowable transfer bandwidth per month which is appalling. On top of that you don't get your own webspace account!
The real page is located at http://www.eonenet.com/members/insurance/home.php3. Check out the counter here if they haven't already removed it http://extremetracking.com/open?login=insure1. This website gets an average of 2 visitors per day. Sadly, another page destine into Internet oblivion.
Even Geocities.com offers a better package with more features at 1/4 the price. They have easy-to-use web design tools, no HTML required and it's capable of producing much better webpages then eOneNet.com Web Creator software.
Web Creator & 2 customized Pages
Cost: RM 2,480 per year
Sample site: CCTVMalaysia.com, 23 Pages.
Since 10 pages are created by eOneNet, this website looks better visually. But, even at such a jaw dropping price tag, this package still doesn't offer the separate website account for the client (I don't mean a server). The website is really hosted at http://www.eonenet.com/members/cctvmalaysia/home.php3
and framed site so that the domain name remains on the URL address bar.
Check out the page counter at http://t.extreme-dm.com/?login=reh19. If they haven't already removed it. This page gets an average of 1, yes my dear ONE visitor per day!
In my opinion, these offers are not a good value for your money at all. These even sound like a scam to me. If you want to do a DIY website, just ask a college kid to do it for you. They will do a much better website at a fraction of the cost. Or simply grab a HTML book and teach yourself. Trust me it's not that hard even my grandmother can do it.
Claimed Number 7: Example of Successful Websites According To eOneNet.com at InternetMarketingCoaching.com.
Again I am not talking about the website owner here.
Claimed On The Website
"I wonder whether this online business will work for an Internet newbie like me. But I got my first sale within 2 months of joining eOneNet's program, USD92, from Morocco. Within 6 months, my online sales reached USD10,786, from US, Japan, Korea, Turkey, Yugoslavia, Malaysia. I am now convinced I can sell online to the world!" F.C. Hor, founder,
1SendSMS.com.
What You Should Know
Sounds good. But why do I've this feeling that this website is no longer making money? May be because this website only get an average of 26 visitors per day. Most of the referrer comes from InternetMarketingCoaching.com website itself not from the search engines. No surprise here. There's no order form on the website. At one page it says payment only via Telegraphic Transfer.
You may take a peek at their counter if they haven't already removed it here: http://extremetracking.com/open;sum?login=hor101
Claimed On The Website
"Within 3 months after eOneNet's program, my site is ranked No.1 US online dating sites in top search engines with 5,000 new members. I even made some good money from Google!" Joshua Goh, founder of
DatingPearl.com.
What You Should Know
On first impression this site looks good. BTW, Don't look at the number of site at the Google.com search result page which you thought this website is competing with (5.7 million).
The 5.7 M websites actually represent pages which contain the words "US", "online", "dating", "sites" placed randomly on those pages. So as long as you have these words on your page, you'll be included among the 5.7 M websites. So what?
Besides, not many people are searching for the words combination of "US online dating sites". Convince yourself with GoodKeywords, you'll find that the number is too low to display! Also notice it doesn't mentioned how many of the members become paid members.
One thing that I suspect is that this website only acts an affiliate of a bigger dating site. All the owner did was bought the domain name and did a little customization. Sure enough, with some investigation, this site is an affiliate of ADLM Dating. ADLM Dating allows you to create your own branded dating site on the fly. The memberships are shared among all the affiliate sites.
Check out another similar branded site here http://www.lovefinity.com/. Check out the links and concept, they looks similar don't they.
If you click on the Business Development section on DatingPearl.com, the link points to http://www.datingsitetogo.com/ (the real founder of ADLM Dating).
So eOneNet.com didn't help design this page. Did they help him to ranked well with the keyword "US online dating sites" which nobody is searching for?
Claimed On The Website
"I attended the training in March and completed my website in April. For the Mother's Day, I received 10 orders, 4 of which from the United States. For Hari Raya, I received orders for 300 cakes worth USD5,368. My website is now ranked No.1 cakes website in Malaysia in top international search engines. Then I applied the same system and launched a second website selling oxygen water. Within 6 months, I sold hundreds of cartons of water, including one order from Brunei worth USD5,952" Norhuda Mahat, an Internet beginner and a homemaker, now founder of the renowned
CakesMalaysia.com and 1OxygenWater.com
What You Should Know
Sounds good and all. But let just take 1OxygenWater.com as example and let's get straight to the point. Here's the counter:
http://extremetracking.com/open;sum?login=einsur
With an average of 5 visitors I very much doubt they can sale many bottles. You know, I think the sales were made as a result of bulk email marketing, or offline contact, not from the Internet search engines.
All of these websites success stories start to sound all too similar to me. Can you guess the running theme here? If they really make money, they all sound like they've only made money once. They don't sound like they generate massive income consistently month after month.
I wonder, are these the example of successful websites eOneNet.com want to show us? Where are the websites with thousands of visitors daily and with high conversion rate? Where are the websites that generate substantial income month after month? Please give me an ironclad proof documents which shows their massive daily transactions.
On their FAQ eOneNet.com wrote:
"What is the success rate?
As with any other business venture, success depends on the individual's commitment, persistence and the ability to take action. Those participants who are committed, persistent, motivated and can follow-through the 6 month coaching will have invariably have some degree of success. How much money they make depends on what they sell and how much time they invest in the online business."
Looks like if you fail, it's your fault! Blame yourself. Which I must say quite true in a way. But if you've failed after participating in their programs, they can easily say "We've told you about the success rate didn't we?".
It will be much credible if they say, "If you don't make at least half of what you've paid us within a six month period, you'll get your money back!". Now that's a commitment and guarantee most people can't resist! It also shows they stands 100% behind their offer.
Last But Definitely Not Least
An Internet Marketer should have enough hands-on experience before he/she preach. He/she should be able to provide an undeniable proof that he/she is really making money from the Internet. He/she shouldn't just concern about how good he/she looks but forget the real essence of Internet Marketing.
From my experience, if you attend a seminar organized by a company like OneNet.com, the seminar will be no more than a sales presentation to persuade the participants to purchase their more expensive and overpriced training packages and products. At the end of the seminar, you'll probably get the idea, you can't succeed unless you do it through them!
Unfortunately in Malaysia, there are still very few companies doing what eOneNet.com is doing now. So you don't have many choices if your idea of learning how to start an online business is to pay companies like eOneNet.com. No doubt, this can be a good starting point for a newbie as someone will be there to hold his/her hand and guide him/her along the way. But as a newbie, you have no idea if what you've paid really worth your money because you have no previous experience or have nothing to compare it with.
There are so many Internet marketing resources on the Internet just waiting to be discovered. You don't have to spend thousands of dollars to succeed, you even can start from zero. Yes we are talking from our own experience here.
Undeniably, the entry cost of starting an online business is slowly increasing, but learning how to start an online business shouldn't be expensive. Do some googling and you'll find wonderful free resources. Let me just give you one place to start: http://www.associateprograms.com. This site teaches you how to start your online business without trying to sell you something. It's your choice if you want to buy what they recommend. Don't forget to sign up for their newsletter.
No I am not getting paid for recommending their website. I've known this Australian guy since 1997 and he doesn't like to make claims in order to entice you to purchase a product. He teaches you, give you real examples and proof how to make money online.
So why don't I do Internet consulting and teach newbies how to start online business? Well, sorry but I am just too busy making money on the Internet.
Do me a favor, next time when you attend one of eOneNet.com seminars, ask them what percentage of their income comes PURELY from the Internet and ask for a proof. Bring up the issues I mentioned above. But I suspect, they usually don't have an open questions and answers session, because they don't want people to openly ask question that they can't or don't want to answer. This surely makes them look bad.
So should you hand over your hard earned money to eOneNet.com. You have read my opinion, it's your money not mine and it's your decision. I know, for the time being, I wouldn't.
To eOneNet.com, if you are reading this, I hope you take this article as a constructive comment and use it to help you to become a truly credible, trustworthy, honest, qualified, and successful Internet consulting company.
